Chapter 12: Getting Your Idea Across
Communicating your idea effectively to the USPTO is the job of your patent attorney. However, explaining it to everyone else—including your patent attorney, in the beginning—is your job.
Why are we even talking about this in a book about obtaining patents? Because too many inventors have difficulty explaining their invention, and can easily be to their detriment.
When asked to summarize their invention, they might take twenty or thirty minutes to get to the point about what they’ve come up with.
They might talk about the origins of the problem. They might talk about future ways they could enhance their idea. They might describe some of the pieces in great detail.
What they typically fail to do is provide a short, concise overview…
Here’s What You’ll Learn In This Chapter:
- Communicating What Makes Your Idea Great
- More Advanced Tools for Getting Your Idea Across
- Talking with Investors
